Jutta Treviranus

Bio

Jutta Treviranus is the Director of the Inclusive Design Research Centre (IDRC) and professor in the faculty of Design at OCAD University in Toronto. Jutta established the IDRC in 1993 as the nexus of a growing global community that proactively works to ensure that our digitally transformed society is co-designed inclusively. Dr. Treviranus also founded an innovative graduate program at OCADU in the theory and practice of the Canadian School of Inclusive Design (in 2010). Jutta has led the development of international, national, and regional policies and regulations related to digital inclusion. Jutta with her team has coordinated many research networks with communities globally to address the risks and opportunities of emerging systems. Her research focuses on the importance and value of co-designing with the people and communities who experience the greatest barriers. She is recognized for her work in AI by Women in AI and Women in AI Ethics. Among her many roles, she is the chair of the Accessibility Standards Canada committee on accessible and equitable AI.
